President Daughtry and Speaker Fecteau Issue Statements as Legislature Adjourns Sine Die
AUGUSTA – On Wednesday, the Maine Legislature concluded the work of the first special session and adjourned sine die (“without day”).
Legislative leaders issued the following statements:
"Maine is better off today because of the work we accomplished this session. In a time of national uncertainty and division, we came together to demonstrate that effective, bipartisan governance is still possible,” said Senate President Mattie Daughtry (D-Brunswick). “We passed meaningful legislation to protect working families, support small businesses, and preserve Maine’s natural resources. We invested in housing, child care, and behavioral health; delivered first-in-the-nation consumer protections; and advanced policies that reflect our values and meet the real needs of our communities. From our teachers and fishermen to our small towns and mobile home parks, this session was about showing up for Maine people—and doing so with the steady, pragmatic leadership our state is known for."
“I am proud that we have recommitted to fully funding the state’s share of education, protected access to health care for Mainers, and taken meaningful steps to address the housing crisis that is impacting Maine families and our economy,” saidHouse Speaker Ryan D. Fecteau (D-Biddeford). “Together, we have accomplished some very good work on behalf of Maine people. I look forward to continuing our work in the second regular session.”
The general effective date for nonemergency bills passed in the First Special Session of the 132nd Legislature is Wednesday, September 24, 2025. The second regular session of the legislature is expected to begin on January 7, 2026.
