The daughter of a civil engineer and a teacher, Senator Matthea Elisabeth “Mattie” Larsen Daughtry was born and raised in Brunswick, where she now runs a small business as co-owner of Moderation Brewing.
Mattie was elected to the State Senate in 2020 and re-elected in 2022, and served as Assistant Majority Leader for both terms. In 2024 she was elected to her third term in the Senate, proudly serving District 23, which includes Brunswick, Chebeague Island, Freeport, Harpswell, Pownal, and part of Yarmouth.
In December 2024, nominated by Democrat and Republican senators, she was unanimously elected as Senate president. President Daughtry is the youngest woman ever to serve as Maine Senate president, and the first person from Brunswick since 1831.
During her time in the legislature, President Daughtry has authored nationally-recognized bills focused on reducing student debt, supporting and protecting seniors, and increasing economic opportunities for all Mainers. Legislation from President Daughtry will also provide working Mainers with access to paid family and medical leave beginning in 2026.
Mattie also co-owns and brews at Moderation Brewing, serves as the vice chair of the New England Board of Higher Education, and is a founder of Brunswick Pride. She and her fiance love to cook and explore our amazing state with their two dogs, Nisse and Bailey.
